Karauli

Karauli is a holy city situated 160 kms from Jaipur. Earlier called Kalyanpuri, after the local deity Kalyanji, Karauli was founded in 1348 AD. Karauli was strongly fortified by its rulers. The city is surrounded by a wall of red sandstone strengthened by bastions at several places. The peripheral wall, now dilapidated at several places, has six gates and eleven posterns.
There are some old monuments you could see here, apart from exploring the rambling countryside and the game sanctuary. There are excellent opportunities for jeep safaris and boating too. Do make it a point to visit the local bazaar where you get good handicraft items, especially the colourful bangles of Karauli. A major socio-religious event here is the Kaila Devi fair.

Kaila Devi Game Santuary:-

This game sanctuary situated in the vicinity, is a protected forest and an extension of the Ranthambore Tiger Project.The Sanctuary is inhabited by Chinkaras, Wild Boar, Blue Bull, Jackal, Leopard, Panther, Tiger, Sloth Bear, Hyena, Wolf, Sambhar and a variety of birds.

 

 

 

Kalika Devi Fair :-

kaila-devi-fairKalika Devi Fair The annual fair of Kaila Devi, (Mahalakshmi or the goddess of wealth), is held at the village Kaila (24 kms to the south west) in Karauli district in the month of Chaitra (Mar-Apr), lasting for a fortnight. The temple of Kaila Devi is located on the banks of the Kalisil river in the hills of Trikut, 2 Kms. to the north-west of Kaila village. Another attraction is the small temple dedicated to Bhairon, situated in the courtyard and facing the shrine of Kaila Devi is a temple of Hanuman locally called ‘Languriya’.

 

 

 

SHOPPING:-
There is nothing much for shopping here in Karauli. But, if you want to take back something as a sounenir you can visit its local market, which has a vast collection of handicraft articles. You can aslo buy some woven clothes and other decorative. While in Karauli , don’t forget to buy some colourful bangle
