South Tripura

Like most other parts of Tripura, the district of South Tripura is also dotted with a number of rivers and mountain ranges. There are three main hill ranges that dominate the physical features of South Tripura, the Deotamura hill range and the South Baramura range begins and ends within the South Tripura district while only a part of the Atharamura hill range lies in the district. There are a number of voluminous rivers that criss cross the district of South Tripura the most important among them are, Feni, Muhuri and Gumti.

HOW TO REACH

By Air:
The nearest airport is Agartala airport.

By Rail:-
The nearest railway station is Kumarghat which is about 190 Km from the district headquarter.

By Road:-
Udaipur is connected with Agartala, the state capital, by road and is about 52 Km from Agartala. Within the district, there are regular bus services connecting the sub-divisional towns. The district headquarter, all sub-divisional headquarters and 10 out 11 blocks headquarters are on the telecommunication network.

 

WHAT TO SEE

 

Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary:-

Another place for being one with nature is the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary which was officially recognized in 1988 and covers an area of around 198 square kilometers. Its main purpose is to spread information and familiarize the study of flora and fauna. It has been planned to be a place of educational and behavioral study of the nature and its elements. Its rich greenery and cool waters is home to many animals, birds and fishes like primates, pheasant, fowl, kingfishers and the Indian Bison (Gaur) being the main attraction.

 

Tripura Sundari Temple:-

Tripura Sundari Temple is one of the 51 pithasthanas of the Hindus. Situated about 55 kilometers from Agartala, Tripura Sundari Temple constructed in the typical Bengali-hut style. The temple houses two identical deities, who are known as Tripura Sundari and Chhotima. The Tripura Sundari Temple is also known as ‘Kurma Pitha’, as the premises of the temple is identical to a ‘kurma’ (tortoise).

 

 

 

 

Bhuvaneswari Temple:-

BhuvaneswariTempleSituated on the banks of river Gomati, the Bhuvaneswari Temple of the most important temples of Tripura. The Bhuvaneswari Temple of Tripura was constructed during 1660-1675 by Maharaja Govinda Manikya. The temple is known for its exquisite architecture. The roof of the temple features the four-chala style on the crowns of the core chambers and entrance. The temple serves as the back-drop of ‘Rajarshi’ and ‘Bisharjan’ composed by the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

 

 

SHOPPING:-
Tribal populated Tripura boasts of vast forestland where bamboo and cane grow in abundance. These two factors have played a key role in forming a tradition of fantastic handicrafts in the state, which make shopping in Tripura a delight.

FOOD:-
The popular varieties of food are known as Maisa, Mami, and Guriya. The traditional food served here are Chakhwi, Mui Borok, Chatang, and Champrai. Turtle, chicken, pork, beef, mutton, crabs, and prawns are also preferred by the indigenous tribes. The people of Tripura have not given up on the traditional food, so, once you visit this place, you must try them.
