Haflong

Haflong is the only hill station of Assam. The headquarters of Dima Hasao. The village of Jatinga is known for mysterious bird suicide on the night of new moon.

HOW TO REACH

By Air:-
The nearest Airport from Haflong Hill is Silchar Airport, Assam, roughly two hour drive from the town. The second nearest Airport from Haflong Hill is Shillong Airport, Meghalaya, roughly five and a half hour drive. Connecting flights to the cities such as Kolkata, Jorhat and Guwahati can be availed from here.

By Road:-
There are many convenient ways to reach Haflong Hill by road. It is 37 Kms from Harangajao, 100 Kms from Silchar, 144 Kms from Hailakandi, 203 Kms from Dimapur, 250 Kms from Shillong, 270 Kms from Kohima, 329 Kms from Jorhat, 350 Kms from Imphal and 895 Kms from Kolkata and is well connected through Assam State Road Transport Corporation (ASRTC) and some private travel services.

By Train:-
Haflong Hill has own railway station named as Haflong Hill Railway Station which is located in northeast of the town. It connects Silchar, Lumding, Maibong and Jatinga to Haflong Hill.

 WHAT TO SEE

 

Bird deaths:-

Bird deathsAt the end of monsoon months especially on moonless and foggy dark nights between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., birds are disturbed by the locals and they are attracted to lights. These dazed birds are captured using bamboo poles by the locals.The local tribals first took this natural phenomenon to be spirits flying from the sky to terrorize them. This phenomenon is not confined to a single species, with Tiger Bittern, Black Bittern, Little Egret, Pond Heron, Indian Pitta and Kingfishers all being affected.

 

 

 

Maibong:-

MaibongThe name comes from two Dimasa words ‘MAI’ and ‘BANG’ literally meaning “plenty of rice” (Mai means food grains and Bang means plenty).
Rasbari :-Ruins Of City Of Kachari Kingdom It is in south side of Maibong.
Ek Patthar Ghar : It is an ancient Indian temple which is belongs to 12th century.It is a monolithic temple with two roofs.

SHOPPING:-
Like any hill station, Haflong also offers a wide variety of wooden handicrafts among which, bamboo and cane products are quite popular. You may also spend on traditional handloom products. Haflong is a known producer of exclusive silk.

 

FOOD:-
There are some famous hotels such as Hotel Elite they offer luxurious facilities such as from the top rooms of the hotel one can view the spectacular views of sun rise in the morning and sun set in the evening and offer luxurious packages to attract tourists. The restaurants offer spicy foods such as chicken curry, rice and roti and also one can have the local food.
