Trivandrum airport is the other option near Kumarakom.

By Rail:-
Kottayam is the nearest railway station. There are regular local and express trains, which connect Kumarakom with major cities in India.

By Road:-
Kottayam, the main road junction is just 14 kms from Kumarakom. Kumarakom is also well linked with all the major cities in India through the State and National Highways.

Vembanad is not only the largest lake in Kerala but also the longest one in entire India. The best time to watch indigenous birds is from the month of June to August. If you have a fascination for watching the migratory birds, the best time to visit is between November and February.

Kumarakom is an ideal getaway for a nature lover. Therefore it is not an ideal shopping destination. However you can pick up souvenirs from the shops in the small town.In Kumarakom, you will find handcrafted gift items typical of the state of Kerala. They include things made form coconut shells ranging from lampshades to fashion accessory like earrings, brass lamps, kathakali masks and so on.
