Jaldapara

Jaldapara is the long stretch of lush green forest in the northern part of West Bengal. Jaldapara is synonymous to the wildlife in the state of Bengal. There is a wildlife sanctuary in Jaldapara, which attracts a good number of tourists.
The Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary is a sanctuary that is the most famous in the whole of Bengal. It is located in one of the Jalpaiguri District’s Sub-Division – Alipurduar. It is at a distance of about one hundred and twenty four kilometer from Siliguri. The Wild Life Sanctuary in Jaldapara is especially well known for the rhinoceros with one-horn, which is endangered specie.

 

HOW TO REACH

By Air:-
The nearest Domestic Airport is Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri, roughly two hour drive from Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. Scheduled flights are available from cities such as New Delhi, Guwahati, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. There is an availability of the flights from International destinations such as Paro and Bangkok.

By Road:-
It is 34 Kms from Alipurduar, 36 Kms from Baneshwar, 41 Kms from Chikliguri, 51 Kms from Cooch Behar, 56 Kms from Dhupguri, 69 Kms from Mathabhanga and 72 Kms from Tufanganj through West Bengal State Transport Corporation (WBSTC).

By Train:-
The nearest Railway Station from Jaldapara is located at Madarihat which is 7 Kms away from Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. Availability of direct trains from different parts of the country such as New Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata etc. can be availed.

WHAT TO SEE

 

Chilapata:-

ChilapataChilapata is a dense forest on the way to Cooch Behar and is located around 20 km from the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. While visiting this forest, tourists can find the ruins of thousand year old fort built by Nal King. This fort is situated deep inside the forest and has historical and archaeological importance. The fort was built in the 5th century, during the Gupta Empire and the ruins depict the heritage of the Golden Age of India.

This dip and dark Chilapata forest is home to elephants and leopards. At any given time, less than three vehicles are allowed in this forest for security concerns.

 

Totopara:-

TotoparaTotopara, a small village is located on the bank of River Torsa of the Jalpaiguri district. This village houses the Toto tribe, a primitive tribe in Dooars. Madarihat, the entry point to the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is at a distance of 22 km from this village. The village is bordered by Bhutan to the North, Torsa River to the East and Titi River and Titi Reserve on the South-West, separated by Hauri River.
